There is nothing more uplifting than a good woman friendship. Does this bear repeating? Science is even on our side. A study undertaken by UCLA researchers strongly suggests that while men act in the well-known “fight-or-flight” response when faced with stressful situations, women respond in what is called “tend-and-befriend”. Tending offspring and creating meaningful social networks with women friends release oxytocin, soothing nerves and reducing stress. I love science! Geeking out on science that supports what we knew in our hearts all along was only the introduction to the true meat of my Tuesday afternoon posting. In October 2011 Tara Borgilt (www.wix.com/croword/poetrystore) was living in Ashland, toting around an old typewriter and whipping up special, spontaneous poems to those with a few dollars and an idea. I was at the Tuesday farmers market and asked her for a poem on the beauty of friendship. Thus:

The beauty of friendship

Even across distance it can be glimced,
shimmering inthe morning like spiderweb
drawn from one heartto the other,
friendship is a many pronged wheel, each
of us a hub and each a spoke,
connecting this world of wondering souls
to eachother the way
dreams connect to moments in real life,
the silver ropes between helping
to draw each of us into our of
realization.

Connecting with beloved friends: small investment with gorgeously abundant returns.

Because I’m still a science student/nerd at heart:
